115+ People Sign Up for Local 'Biggest Loser' Contest
KENNEWICK, Wash.--More than 115 people signed up for the StarFit 'Biggest Loser' contest on Thursday.
Once contestants registered, they stepped on a scale for the first official weigh-in.
From this point forward, they have the option of checking their weight every Thursday at the gym.
Personal trainers emphasized a healthy diet, frequent exercise and overall good lifestyle will help them shed unwanted pounds.
20 people also had a detailed heart screening from the Richland-based mobile echocardiography service called ActionEcho.
The risk assessment identifies how prone a person is in suffering a heart attack or stroke.
One father and former athlete says his whole family is committed to changing their lifestyle.
"We're going to try and team up and help each other out and support each other," says Josh Jelinek. There's still heart disease to think about, cholesterol problems, diabetes. It's gotta stop somewhere and I guess today's the day."
All of the contestants like Jelinek will face the scale one final time on Thursday, December 11th.
StarFit personal trainers will select the winners.
