SPOKANE, Wash. - One woman was arrested Saturday morning after she tried to burn down a house on East Mission.
Just after 5 a.m. fire crews arrived at 22 E. Mission to find smoke coming from a two-story wood-framed home. Fortunately, the two apartment units there were unoccupied except for several animals belonging to one tenant.
Firefighters were able to safely evacuate all the animals from the building.
The fire was extinguished and overhauled in less than one hour. The building suffered around $30,000 in damages but no injuries were repored during the incident.
Fire investigators have charged 57-year old Beverly Nagi with First-Degree Arson for setting the fire. Nagi was arrested near the fire scene Saturday morning and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
The Spokane Chapter of American Red Cross is assisting one displaced resident.
