Erratic Driver Hits Two Cars, Spins Into Light Pole
YAKIMA--An erratic driver causes two accidents and smashes into a light pole in Yakima.
Police say the driver hit a Honda Accord on Third Street at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning. She kept going and ran a stop sign at the intersection of Sixth and Beech Streets, where she collided with a Ford Ranger and then spun into the light pole, snapping it in two.
Witnesses say the 22-year old woman was speeding when she crashed into the Ranger. The woman is being treated at Yakima Regional Hospital for broken ribs. The other people involved were not injured.
Emergency responders had to use the Jaws of Life to pry her out of the car. Her Chevy Malibu was totaled and the other two cars sustained significant damage. Fortunately, the neighborhood did not lose power.
"We determined it was not an active line," Sgt. Bob Hester, Yakima Police, said. "It was some sort of secondary line that had no power [running] through it."
Pacific Power tied the line off.
Police say the driver was not under the influence at the time of the accidents. Police are charging the driver with hit and run and reckless driving. She could face up to a year in jail.
