2008 Washington Race For Governor Breaks Records With $19 Million Raised
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The race for Washington Governor isn't just heating up, it's become one of the most expensive in the state.
The Rossi and Gregoire campaigns combined have raised a little over $19 million so far. Gregoire has about $10 million altogether, and Rossi a little over $9 million.
These numbers come from the Washington Public Disclosure Commission web site.
We talked to staff from the Gregoire Campaign, who say this year the state Governor's race is breaking records with fundraising. They give us one reason why.
"I think that speaks to the fact that there's a lot at stake on this election, and I know that people are concerned about the worsening national economy," said Aaron Toso, Spokesman for Christine Gregoire's campaign.
We also looked at some of the numbers from the 2004 campaign. Back then both Rossi and Gregoire had a little over $6 million for their campaigns.
So you can see a big difference four years later. You can take a look at the numbers for yourself.
The web site breaks it down for you by contribution given to each campaign, by amount, date and city. Just look for a link on the On-Air Links Section of our web site.
We tried getting a hold off staff at the Rossi campaign for comment. But our calls were not returned.
