YAKIMA, Wa.- The Snoqualamie Pass widening project on interstate-90 is now approved. The Federal Highway Administration approved construction plans to expand the highway to six lanes from Hyak to Easton.
The project will straighten roadway curves, replace old pavement and reduce rock fall and avalanche hazards.
"We close down the pass a lot...this will make it safer and more reliable," said Randy Giles, a Project Engineer for the Department of Transportation.
The project will also add wildlife crossings over and under I-90 to help prevent any accidents.
Construction on the first five miles of the project will begin in the Spring.
