OLYMPIA, Wash - Lawyers for Republican candidate for governor Dino Rossi plan to file papers Monday for a court case in Seattle.
They are trying to prevent him from having to testify in a lawsuit challenging campaign spending by the Building Industry Association of Washington.
Rossi's campaign says the lawsuit is politically motivated.
The lawsuit was filed by two former state Supreme Court justices, Faith Ireland and Robert Utter, who support Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire. They accuse Rossi of illegally coordinating his campaign with the building industry group. A building industry lawyer tells The Olympian newspaper that opponents are trying to embarrass Rossi.
Rossi and Gregoire hold their final debate Wednesday in Seattle.
