YAKIMA, Wash.-- Scammers are going after people with 509 area codes.
One victim received a call from (509) 895-5055, and the victim assumed it was someone they knew, but it was a scammer claiming to be from the "Outstanding Violations Department."
The scammer told the victim they had to pay outstanding tickets or their drivers license would be revoked, trying to get personal banking information. However, the victim has never gotten a traffic ticket and knew it was a scam then.
Better Business Bureau staff say never give out personal information over the phone or via e-mail, especially if the person contacts you.
