Fewer Fire Related Deaths So Far This Year in Washington
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- There have been fewer fire-related deaths so far this year than in 2006 and 2007. So far this year, there have been 31 fire-related deaths in Washington. This is down 28% from the same time period last year, and down 39% from 2006.
70% of the deadly fires were house fires, 20% car fires, and 10% were wildfires. From what different fire departments report, most of the house fire deaths were the result of smoke alarms not being installed or not working.
Firefighters suggest making sure your smoke alarms work, installing fire sprinklers, and developing an escape plan for your whole family.
