Number of HIV Patients in Yakima County Keeps Growing
YAKIMA, Wa.- In Yakima County there are 243 people living with HIV. Companies like Planned Parenthood were at Yakima Valley Community College Wednesday to promote getting tested and HIV prevention.
One in four people with HIV don't even know they have it and a large number of that group are people ages 20 to 35. Employees from Planned Parenthood say they've had more than 10 people screened so far.
"It's always important to know your status. If you don't know your status it could be difficult to get the healthcare you need and protect your friends and family," said Michael Palencia, an employee for Planned Parenthood.
Planned parenthood employees are wearing shirts to remind people of the growing number of people with HIV in the Yakima area. They say the event has been a success so far and their goal is to get 100 people tested.
And if you weren't able to get tested at this event, you can still attend World AIDS Day on December 1st of this year.
