LAS VEGAS (AP) - Both the Gonzaga men's and women's basketball teams have been voted preseason favorites to extend their West Coast Conference championship streaks. The Gonzaga men have claimed the past eight WCC championships. Yesterday in Las Vegas, they tallied 46 points and five first-place votes from the eight conference coaches, and second-place St. Mary's collected 44 points and two first-place votes. Both teams ranked in the Top 25 on some national preseason polls. The final first-place vote went to third-place San Diego, which tallied 39 votes. The Toreros were the lone WCC team to claim an NCAA Tournament victory last year when they defeated Connecticut in the first round. The Gonzaga women have won the past four WCC regular-season titles. They received 49 points and seven first-place votes, and runner-up Loyola Marymount totaled 40 points and the remaining first-place vote. For the WCC men, Gonzaga returns 10 players, including three starters, from last year's team that went 27-8 overall last year and qualified for their 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
