First Week on the Job for Union Gap Fire Chief

Posted: Updated:

UNION GAP--Union Gap welcomes a new fire chief this week.   Bill Steele started Wednesday.   He replaces Keith Yamane, who resigned last month to take a job in Spokane.   Steele spent the last four years working as a Pierce County Fire Marshal.   Steele brings more than 30 years of fire service and law enforcement experience.   Steele thinks the department needs more firefighters.

"To continue the level of service we currently have it's going to take additional career staffing and increasing the volunteer force," Steele said.

Steele's background is in fire service training.   He hopes to open a volunteer recruitment and training center in the next few months.
