HUMBOLDT, Calif. -- Central Washington University clinched no worse than a tie for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference football championship with its 34-14 victory over host Humboldt State on Saturday night at the Redwood Bowl.
The win was the seventh in as many Division II games for the Wildcats, who improved to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in GNAC action. Central entered this week's game ranked 11th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II national poll and, more importantly, fifth in the NCAA regional poll. Humboldt State fell to 2-6 overall and remained winless in conference play at 0-5.
Senior quarterback Mike Reilly (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) threw for 275 yards, completing 20 of 29 pass attempts on the night in a game where the Central offense totaled just 339 yards.
