YAKIMA, Wash-- The budget forecast is looking sunny as the City of Yakima paints a pretty picture for 2009.
City Manager Dick Zais said Yakima will be in the black for the 2008 fiscal year. While many cities are struggling Yakima faced hard times in years past, putting us ahead of the curve today.
In 2009 Yakima will have over 30-million in outside money coming in.
"And that's money that's coming in that our citizens have not had to directly pay for so that's really an accomplishment for us and it's a big help in moving us forward into the future and where we want to be with out putting the burden on our own citizens," said Rita DeBord, finance director, City of Yakima.
This state and federal money combined with one of the lowest pay rolls per capita is helping Yakima survive tough times. Currently, there are no proposed employee lay-offs.
