Highlands Middle School Students Hope to Go to Washington D.C.

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Students at Highlands Middle School in Kennewick are hoping to go to the presidential inauguration in Washington D.C.

Tuesday they prepared for their last fundraiser by making posters and getting items ready for a silent auction this Thursday night.

26 students hope to get to see the inauguration and tour monuments and museums.  History teacher Heather Schulman says, "Each place that they go to, they'll have some activity that they'll take part in. One of the activities is that they'll each get a part of Martin Luther king's speech and they'll get to recite it right where he was when he recited it, so it's really cool."

The trip will cost about $2,000 per student.  Thursday night's auction and pizza dinner will be in Highland Middle School's Cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
