Gun Pointed at Vehicle on SR-240; Multiple Arrests MadePosted: Updated:
TRI-CITIES, Wash.--Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of this incident.
Here's how it all happened.
Around 5:00 p.m. Thursday (October 23rd) afternoon, a driver calls 911 after seeing a handgun being pointed at another vehicle.
The caller had a great view because he/she was behind the suspects vehicle.
Six people were inside the car including Richland resident Shawn Stevens; a convicted felon.
A short time later, West Richland and Benton County sheriff's deputies were able to track down the suspects car near the West Richland Family Dental Center on Van Giesen Street.
Police later found the gun along with ammunition in the car.
Turns out the weapon which had the serial numbers scratched off of it belongs to Stevens.
"He brought it with the group and they were going to go shooting out at a firing range," says Richland police Corporal Darryl Judge. We learned through our investigation that Shawn (Stevens) is a multiple time convicted felon and shouldn't be anywhere near a firearm let alone own one."
Judge says Joshua Wheatcroft of Pasco was the driver of the car.
He was arrested on alcohol-related charges.
Zachary Moss of Walla Walla was also arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol and unlawful display of a firearm.
Traffic along Van Giesen Street was backed up for hours.
Officers want to thank the community for being patient while they completed their investigation.
