New Pedestrian Bridge Opens

Posted: Updated:

After more than eight years of paperwork and delays, Pasco and state legislators cut the ribbon today on the Court Street pedestrian overpass.

The walkway began with a budget of  $500,000. But inflation and rising construction costs drove the price tag to $900,000 and nearly killed the project. State lawmakers from the Tri Cities convinced other members of the legislature to spend $400,000 from the 2007 capital budget to complete the pedestrian overpass.

Construction began in late February, finishing up this week.

The new overpass, which also includes a bike lane, makes it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross over Highway 395.  Pasco city officials say the walkway will also help commerce on both sides of Court Street.
