Fontaine Fired As Mariners Scouting Director, 2 New Hires
SEATTLE (AP) - New Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik (Zur-EN'-sik) has fired scouting director Bob Fontaine and hired a pair of former colleagues from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Mariners announced yesterday that Tony Blengino and Tom McNamara will join the team's staff. Zduriencik says the titles for Blengino and McNamara will be determined as the department's structure is finalized. He was hired by the Mariners last week. Fontaine came to the Mariners with former general manager Bill Bavasi and served as the team's scouting director since being hired in December 2003. Blengino spent the last six seasons with the Brewers, and was the assistant scouting director under Zduriencik for the last three years. McNamara worked as a scout for the Mariners from 1994-2000. He moved on to Milwaukee, where he was responsible for scouting and signing Prince Fielder. After a stint with the San Diego Padres, McNamara rejoined the Brewers in 2008.
