Yakima Flower Shop Employee Refuses Robbers While at Gunpoint
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Two men tried to rob Shirley's Flower Shop Wednesday night, but left the store with only a rose after the clerk, at gunpoint, refused to give them any money.
The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Police say two men shopped for a while then approached the counter. One of them was holding a rose, the other was holding a gun.
The robber put the gun against the clerk's head, but she would not comply with their demand for cash. As the men left, she took down their license plate number. Soon after, their truck was spotted on I-82. The two men who entered the store, plus a third man, were pulled over and arrested without incident.
Police say the robber with the gun is an illegal immigrant. All three were booked into the Yakima County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery. The charge would have been attempted robbery if they had not taken the rose.
Officers say the clerk took an unnecessary risk.
"Life is much more valuable than money", said Lt. Nolan Wentz. "There's no amount of money worth being injured for".
Shirley's is located on N. 16th Avenue and police say it may have been targeted because of its proximity to the freeway.
