Woman In Kennewick Gets K-9 Dog Scam Phone Calls Asking Her For Money
KENNEWICK, Wash. - If you get a call from someone asking you to donate money to a police K-9 program don't give them any.
Police said one Kennewick woman got two phone calls in two days.
The scammers told her they need the money to fund a program that has police officers bring their K-9 dogs into classrooms and educate kids about safety.
The victim then asked the scammers for some printed information.
Mike Blatman with the Kennewick Police Department said, "They told her they couldn't afford to do that. That was too expensive (to provide written documation) and they weren't able to do that as a non-profit and they weren't allowed to do any advertising. I don't know of any non profit organization that don't know how to advertise themselves."
The scammers claimed to be working with the State of Washington.
Police said they are looking for quick cash and could be calling from anywhere in the world.
