RICHLAND, Wash-- Children trick-or-treating on Adams Street in Richland were unexpectedly greeted by a man in the nude.
Police say they got a call early Friday night about 65-year-old Ernest Slightom answering his door wearing nohing but a robe.
Kids walked up to Slightom's house looking for candy, but what they got was a shock. One officer tells KNDU it's a good thing parents were with their children--they were the ones that made the 9-1-1 call.
It is an important lesson to learn, even for next year: be with your children at all times, because you never know what could happen.
"It's very alarming," says officer Kevin Berger of Richland Police. "It's very upsetting. That's one of the main reasons why I go along with my kids. Anyone who trick-or-treats should accompany them at all times. It's crucial--you never know who you're going to meet or who your kids are going meet out there."
KNDU spoke with several neighbors who did not want to speak on camera. They say there's no excuse for lewd behavior, especially on a night when dozens of children are outside. Some also say they're surprised this happened, but their focus is on the children's safety.
