U-5 and U-7 Unlimited Hydroplanes get new shop - NBC Right Now/KNDO/KNDU Tri-Cities, Yakima, WA | U-5 and U-7 Unlimited Hydroplanes get new shop

Posted: Updated:

During the week of October 27th, 2008, P.P.E., L.L.C. moved into a new shop building located in Decatur, Indiana.

The new boat racing shop is ironically the former home of an Anheuser-Busch distribution facility. Two interconnected 100' X 60' buildings have the necessary floorspace for U-5 Racing to have all of our equipment under one roof.

Connected to the front offices, engineering room and lobby, the primary building will house the race and Championship-winning U-5 and U-7 unlimited hydroplanes. This area will also house the new P.P.E. engine room and race support trucks. This drive-through building also has full freight loading dock capabilities.

The secondary section of the new shop will be the home of the U-1 display hull, the team's back-up hull and "Big Red", the team's former NASCAR hauler. "Big Red" has been converted to have machine shop, welding and press capabilities and will serve as the team's on-site machining center. "Big Red" served many teams well during the 2008 racing series, helping keep them on the water with its full-service capabilities. This area will also be utilized for painting, molds and the creation of lightweight carbon parts - wings, fairings, cowlings, etc. that will be available for purchase to all teams.
