Four years ago it was a race that went on for weeks, this time there will be no recounts. Christine Gregoire will serve another term as governor.
The governor race did not leave us hanging for long. This morning after more counts came in Gregoire won the election by about 15,000 votes. 55 percent of the votes have been counted. Gregoire is ahead with 54 percent compared to Rossi who has 46 percent. Rossi personally called Gregoire to congratulate her Wednesday, and he conceded saying he has no plans to run for public office again. In Benton and Franklin County Rossi won the majority of the votes. Gregoire lead in 16 counties including seven she lost in 2004, like Snohomish County.
"Do you have any idea how hard I've run to be governor? I want to be governor of the great State of Washington," said Gregoire."We had a fantastic campaign. We did amazing things in this campaign, in the last campaign as well in 2004. We ran 7.5 points ahead of President Bush to be certified twice as the victor," said Rossi. This was the most expensive race in the history of Washington State both candidates combined spent $20 million.
