HERMISTON, Ore-- More jobs and new investments in Hermiston. Thursday, Dupont announced they plan to expand production there.
Dupont is going to build a new grain production facility. This will be a $15 million investment. Something very sizable to the economy in Hermiston and it will provide more jobs to the community.
The location will produce parent seed corn and pre commercial hybrid seed corn. Dupont purchased 40 acres in Hermiston and will start construction in the fall of 2009.
The price of grain and other commodities recently dropped so KNDU asked a plant manager if Dupont predicts this to be a problem.
"Commodity prices are always fluctuating and our piece of the supply chain is specifically producing seed to sell to farmers which they use to become profitable and feed the world. Even with the fluctuating commodity prices and input costs we are still making seed," said Bret Iverson, Dupont Plant Manager.
Dupont is the parent company of Pioneer, which will operate the facility. Pioneer is the world's leading customized solution company for farmers and livestock producers.
