Union Gap City Council Holds Fate of Aquatic Center
YAKIMA, Wash-- The proposed Yakima Aquatic Center has two more laps to complete before the project can move forward. The fate of the aquatic center rests in the hands of three city councils, Yakima, Union Gap and Selah.
Yakima City Council already agreed to move forward with the project with a five to two vote. Now if the proposal is going to go any further the Aquatic Center Task Force needs to make a big splash Tuesday night.
Yakima Mayor Dave Edler heads the task force and he'll present to the Union Gap City Council. Those for the new center said it would bring in tourism and replace our aging city pools. Those against the center said they don't want to see any more taxes.
The $34 million dollar price tag for the project would be funded by a small sales tax increase. If you want to attend the Union Gap City Council meeting is tonight at 7:00, City Hall, 102 West Ahntanum Road, Union Gap.
Both the Boise Cascade Mill site and State Fair Park are possible locations for the Aquatic Center.
