Soldier Comes Home to See Baby Daughter For First Time

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash.-- A soldier came home to a warm welcome from friends, family, and someone special the night before Veteran's Day.

Army Private Salvador Vela walked off the plane only to meet his new baby daughter, Austin, for the first time.  She was born in August while he was stationed in Iraq.  Vela has two other children and a wife who all greeted him with hugs and kisses.  Local vets also gathered to give him a traditional welcome back.

Vela has been in Iraq for more than six months now, and although he's only home for 15 days, he's just happy to be here and to see everyone.   He says, "It's good to be able to get home, see my kids, my wife, my family."

Vela says his new daughter is all he imagined she would be, and more.  He's also going to celebrate his 22-month-old's birthday a little early while he's here, and spend time with his five-year-old and wife.
