One Teen Dead After a Shootout at a Sunnyside IntersectionPosted: Updated:
SUNNYSIDE, Wash - At approximately 1530 Monday afternoon Sunnyside Police Officers received a call of shots fired in the 400 block of S 13th St in Sunnyside.
Two vehicles were involved and one witness vehicle was in the area.
The suspect vehicle (vehicle one) was stopped at a stop sign in the intersection of S. 13th St and Edison Ave. with a witness vehicle (vehicle two) and suspect vehicle (vehicle three) behind that vehicle. The occupants of vehicle three exited the vehicle and threw rocks and bricks at vehicle one. The occupants of vehicle one then exited their vehicle and shot at the people that had been occupying vehicle three.
At approximately 7:00pm last night 18-year-old Eric Vargas was pronounced deceased.
The autopsy on Vargas is currently pending.
The other victim, a 17-year-old male was transferred to another hospital where he is being treated for injuries stemming from multiple gunshot wounds.
Sunnyside Police are currently looking for a 17-year-old male as a person of interest in the investigation.
Evidence was recovered at the scene, in the victim and in the victim vehicle. The victim vehicle was a 1997 Ford Explorer maroon in color. It was the vehicle that the victims transported themselves to a local hospital in.
The result of the victims transporting themselves was an accident resulting in cosmetic damage to the Emergency Room entry.
The value of that damage is unknown at this time.
