Multiple Events Honor Veterans in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. - There were several celebrations honoring veterans in the city Tuesday including one gathering at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post.

Local veterans say they were happy to see so many people taking part in local events.  Dozens of veterans along with their families and friends stopped by the VFW post, after attending the city's official holiday parade.

Arnold Frazier, a Retired Master Petty Chief Officer of the Navy, thinks the turnout was better than previous years.

"People are recognizing that you have to put something into the country to get something back, it's not free."

Frazier also said he was glad to see so many young people at today's events.  Members of the VFW would like to see more of their fellow veterans in the community joining them at their post.

They also are encouraging the community to get involved with the VFW beyond today, and to keep honoring veterans all year.
