PASCO, WASH. - Most Washington State University students will be headed home after the Apple Cup this year, but members from two organizations will brave the cold to collect donations for local community agencies in the Tri-Cities. The WSU students will be accepting donations at the Pasco Wal-Mart parking lot from 10 am Monday, Nov. 24 to 10 am Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Each year, members of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. and Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc. dedicate the first two days of their Thanksgiving break to help local food banks keep their shelves stocked for the holidays. This is the 9th year members of these organizations have sponsored the food drive.
"We could easily do this event in Pullman, but we do the event in places like, Pasco, Sunnyside and Yakima so we can give back to the local community," said Esther Mancilla, president of Kappa Delta Chi. "Most of us are from those areas, and it's great to see our local communities benefit directly."
The students will be collecting non-perishable food items, canned food, and money donations. Any donations will be appreciated and every item will reach a family in need this holiday season.
Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. is a Latina founded, 501© (17), national sorority dedicated to community services to their local university communities with an emphasis on the Hispanic/Latino population. Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc. is a national service/social fraternity.
