Aids of U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell held a symposium in Pasco today on how to get federal grants and earmarks.
Kennewick Police and other public safety agencies in the Mid Columbia heard the senators' representatives talk about the uncertain future of federal money, given the economy and the new administration.
Randy Baird is area director of the Department of Agriculture. His office works with local governments, small business and other organizations in the Mid Columbia applying for federal appropriations.
"Dealing with the federal government sometimes is a bit of a challenge, but we're trying to make the process as easy as possible, as user friendly as possible."
Baird says the Tri Cities has actually grown to the size that it no longer qualifies for many rural development grants.
