Fifth Straight Trip to State for East Valley Soccer Team
YAKIMA, Wash. - Benjamin Franklin once said "Nothing is certain in this world except death and taxes." Well Uncle Ben, you can add something else to that list: East Valley making the State Soccer Playoffs! They're in the bracket for the fifth straight year. The Red Devils host Pullman in a second -round game Friday at 6 p.m. Gary Mellick's team is one win away from making the Final Four, which would be next weekend in Lakewood. They're chasing the schools second state title since 2000. They had the CWAC's best offense and defense this year. So what's their secret? "We all kind of connect and we all have fun," said goalie Amanda Freisz. "We're all friends. We go through tough times, but you know who doesn't? At the end we came together as a team." "We just want to play well," said Mellick. "If they go out and play hard give it their best, even if you win or lose you can look back and say 'Hey, we got beat by a better team.'" Last year they lost in Round One.
