Governor Gregoire Wants Suggestions From Public On How To Fix The Budget
WASHINGTON - Do you have an opinion on how the Washington state budget should be fixed or how state money should be distributed?
If you do the governor wants to hear your ideas.
People can go directly to the governors website. Governor Gregoire wants to know what the public thinks about budget priorities.
Her office is gathering suggestions from anyone who is willing to give one. She said things need to be cut because of a multi billion dollar shortfall.
Kris Rietmann, a representative from the governor's office said the suggestion section on the website just went up Friday and they've already received 30 suggestions.
Rietmann said, "The reality is that we don't have the money to fund all the programs that we have supported in the past, so one of the big things we are trying to do is hear directly from Washingtonians about what they would do."
The Governor wants people to go to her website and submit their own cost saving strategies.
She also wants to know what programs might be handled better in the private sector or as a non profit organization.
The governor said it's clear they need to cut spending and rethink the way they balance the budget.
