PASCO, Wash-- Some students at Columbia Basin College were in class today, even though it's saturday! A professor demonstrated how to convert a diesel passenger car to run on vegetable oil. It's a lesson on the future of bio-fuels.
Professor Dan Van Holten says bio-fuel is an alternative source to petroleum that could end our dependence on foreign oil, but it's going to take a lot of work.
"A percentage of bio-fuel can be run in most any diesel, it's when you go to 100% bio-fuel, then it requires a little more preparation," says Van Holten.
He says the key to using bio-fuel is heating it up to keep it burning, which is why students and staff worked on finding better ways to keep it hot.
