KENNEWICK, Wash-- To help gear up for the holidays, dozens gathered in Kennewick to box up care packages for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as hospitals around the country. Supporters of all ages boxed food, silverware, and mini christmas trees.
The event coordinator says the turnout was just as much a gift as the ones being boxed for soldiers.
"I'm just totally in shock right now, I just had no idea the community was going to come out as so big, and so many items that have been donated, it's been wonderful," says Norma Nunamaker, the event's coordinator.
Norma says it's wasn't just immediate residents that came to help; students from as far as Prosser offered a helping hand. Now that's the holiday spirit.
