State Patrol to Monitor Seat Belt Usage

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash--  Starting Monday, Washington State Patrol troopers will be checking drivers on state routes and interstates to make sure they're wearing a seatbelt.

The checks will primarily happen at night.  State Patrol says there have been 12 fatal collisions in the Tri-Cities so far this year, and most of them happen at night.

They also say drivers don't wear seatbelts as often at night, and the nighttime death rate is four times higher  than during the day.
