Safe Shopping Tips: Don't Let What You Just Bought Get Stolen
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday, is less than two weeks away and we want you to shop safely.
Kennewick police say shoppers can be easy targets for thieves, who know shoppers have cash and are buying gifts. Police recommend to park in a well-lit area and always be aware of your surroundings.
Officer Keith Schwartz also says to make sure to lock your car. He explains, "If you leave the vehicle, make sure you lock it. Don't have valuables where they can be seen, place them in the trunk if you have to place them in the vehicle. Keep an eye out when you're doing that because there's people that are watching for that."
Police say try not to carry cash, instead use credit or debit cards, which are much easier to track down if stolen.
Officer Schwartz also says keep an eye out for suspicious people, such as someone who is watching the parking lot or trying to open multiple car doors.
