Huskies favored in battle of Pac-10 bottom feeders
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - If the oddsmakers are correct, the Washington Huskies will get their first victory of the season on Saturday at Pullman in the battle of Pac-10 bottom feeders. They've made the Huskies (0-10) 7 1/2-point favorites to beat the Cougars (1-10) in a noon game at Martin Stadium. Washington and Washington State are bringing up the read of the Pac-10 standings, with the Huskies at 0-7 and the Cougars are 0-8. UCLA and Arizona State are tied for seventh place with 3-4 records. Washington won the last Apple Cup in Pullman in 2006 by a 35-32 score, but Washington State has captured three of the last four Apple Cups, including a 42-35 shootout in Seattle last season. Quarterback Alex Brink passed an Apple Cup record 399 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown to Brandon Gibson with 31 seconds left for the Cougars. After the 2008 Apple Cup, the Huskies and the Cougars each will wind up their seasons on the road. Washington State is at Hawaii Nov. 29 and Washington is at California Dec. 6.
