SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Mariners introduced their 14th manager in team history on Wednesday.
It's Don Wakamatsu. He takes over for Jim Riggleman, who replaced the fired John McLaren. Wakamastu is the first Asian-American manager in major league history.
He has the task of turning around the team that lost 101 games last year despite a $100 million payroll. He's already talking about a championship.
Wakamatsu says, "I welcome the challenge to bring a world championship to Seattle and to the fans of the Seattle Mariners. Our number one goal as an organization is to come together and as Jack (Zduriencik- General Manager) said, to acquire some talent and put a product on the field that everybody'll be proud of."
