Yakima Police and Sheriff's Chill Out For Charity

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA--It was not too cold in Yakima today, but a county sheriff and a Yakima policeman were still "Freezin' for a Reason!"

Lt. Gary McLaren and Sgt. Tim Bardwell stranded themselves on top of Les Schwab tires on S. First St.

They stayed up there for six hours this afternoon to raise money for the Special Olympics.  It's part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, and all the proceeds will stay in Yakima.

"When we raise it through the law enforcement torch run, every dollar stays to be used for our own Yakima County athletes, doesn't go to pay somebody's light bill or salary."

The Special Olympics are the charity of choice for police departments all across the country.

This is the first year Freezin' for a Reason has been held.  Today they raised about $1300.
