KENNEWICK, Wash-- A Yakima man is behind bars after police say he passed 17 fake traveler's checks in Kennewick. Officers say 54-year-old Kevin Danielson went to the Benton County Fairgrounds with several $100 traveler's checks.
He would buy something of little value and get cash back. Several vendors quickly caught on and called police.
"In this particular instance, the arrest was the direct result of citizens really paying attention," says Corporal Ball of Kennewick Police. "They watched this gentleman move around from vendor to vendor. They discovered he was using traveler's checks at each vendor."
After police made the arrest, they did a little digging. It turns out he's also a wanted fugitive out of Utah for grand larceny. He was booked in the Benton County jail for forgery and I.D. theft.
