Holidays Take Energy

Posted: Updated:

Kennewick, WA- When your holiday guests go home, they'll likely leave you with the leftover energy bill.

Winter heating costs alone raise the average electric bill considerably. But Karen Miller with the Benton Public Utility District says many families don't think about how much it costs to entertain during the holidays. "During the holidays families are cooking more, they've got guests, they're using more hot water, even the Christmas tree lights and the lights outside add up, and your bills in November and December will be higher than most."

The PUD offers a payment program that allows you to spread out your winter bills over the course of the year.

There are also assistance programs for seniors on fixed incomes and disabled people.
