Kennewick Police Can Drive You Home, If You're Too Drunk To Drive

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- There's no excuse for drinking and driving when you've got a free ride, especially one from the Kennewick Police.

The Holiday Ride Program starts this Friday, and goes on until New Year's Eve. Kennewick police will offer free rides again this year, for anyone who may have had too much too drink for the holidays.

In the past couple years, officers say they've received between 30 and 50 calls. You'll be riding home, in the comfort of a Kennewick patrol car.

Police say they don't want people to rely on their service, but use it in case of an emergency. Keep in mind officers will take you home, if you live only in Kennewick.

And they won't take people to any other bars or parties.

"Part of our program is the no questions asked program, we don't run warrants, checks, there are some officer safety issues, if it looks like there's going to be a problem obviously you're not going to be allowed in a police car, without us at least padding you down," said Corporal Glenn Ball, with the Kennewick Police.

Kennewick patrols are somewhat limited for the holidays. So be aware if you call for a ride, you could be waiting for a long time, before getting picked up.

The number to call is the non emergency number: 509-628-0333.
