Mall Parking Lot Entrances Closed for the Holidays
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Police are redirecting traffic around the Columbia Center Mall parking lot hoping to relieve some congestion on the roads.
If you've been to the mall lately, you've probably noticed all the cones and closure signs. Several entrances to the mall have either been completely closed off or traffic is being redirected.
But don't be too surprised, this happens every year. Kennewick Police Officer Brian Banner says some of the entrances just get too crowded during the holiday shopping season, causing traffic to build up on Columbia Center Boulevard. He says preventing too many cars from going into the mall parking lot all at once should prevent traffic problems in the future.
"When those lanes are open then people back up because they can't get across southbound traffic and northbound traffic backs up all the way to Clearwater sometimes," said Banner.
Banner says the entrance by Shari's Restaurant and Barnes and Noble is closed to northbound traffic. The entrance near JC Penny and Canal Drive has one lane closed off.
These changes will be in place until after Christmas.
