RICHLAND, Wash-- As the temperatures continue to go down, many homeowners notice their heating bills going up. But there are steps you can take to help lower your heating bill.
One heating expert recommends closing all doors and windows, lowering the thermostat and cleaning the air filter often. He says cleaning the air filter is simple.
"It's not rocket science, guys," says Jeff Rau, owner of Advanced Construction Services. "It's a matter of keeping it clean, it's using a vacuum. I consider it to be housekeeping. You use a vacuum, you clean inside, a can of compressed air like cleaning your keyboard, very similar."
Rau says cleaning the air filter can knock almost ten percent off some bills.
Some experts also say take advantage of natural sunlight.
