RICHLAND, Wash. -- Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to remove a truck driver from his rig after he rolled it on a ramp leading to I-82 Sunday night.
The driver, identified as 63-year-old Joseph Remington of Keizer, Oregon, told troopers he swerved to miss a deer. The rollover happened at about 10:30 p.m.
Remington told troopers he swerved to miss a deer. He was taken to Kadlec Medical Center with only cuts and bruises. Troopers said, if there was a deer, Remington made the wrong move.
"He shouldn't have been swerving for the deer", said Trooper Doug Lux. "If he has to hit the deer that's one of the things you have to do. Not dump your trailer then be trapped inside the cab for a while."
The off-ramp was closed for four hours while crews flipped then towed the truck.
