Kennewick Man Arrested After Troopers Said He Tried To Flee Night Time Seat Belt Enforcement
KENNEWICK, Wash. - A man was taken to jail Monday night after Washington State Patrol said he didn't stop for troopers.
Troopers were conducting their Night Time Seat Belt Enforcement near Kennewick Avenue and Clearwater Avenue in Kennewick. They said they spotted 28-year-old Matthew Mullen not wearing his seat belt and talking on his cell phone.
Authorities said they tried to stop him and he took off through the streets of Kennewick, eventually crashing near Yelm Street and Highway 395.
He crashed his yellow Firebird in a fence of a home. State patrol said a 7-year-old girl was in the backyard of the home during the time of the crash but said she wasn't hurt.
Authorities call his behavior extremely dangerous especially since the roads were wet Monday night.
He was taken to the Benton County Jail for driving under the influence, eluding and reckless endangerment.
