YAKIMA--A visit to Target isn't a big deal for most people, but for some needy Yakima Valley children Saturday brought the trip of a lifetime.
Close to 80 kids got to go on a shopping spree! Local businesses and community members donated $50 for each child to buy much-needed clothes and shoes.
Longtime sponsor Tim Franks is still amazed by how much joy one shopping trip can bring.
"I haven't seen any of these kids not love what's going on here," Franks said. "Most of these kids never get to come in a store like this, [today] is a once in a lifetime deal."
Franks said many of the kids and their families can usually only shop at Goodwill or other thrift stores. School counselors provide lists of children who are most in need of some new clothes.
The Salvation Army organizes the event. They will take 80 more kids shopping next week.
