SEATTLE (AP) - Governor Chris Gregoire says Washington State's economic downturn will continue unless federal and state stimulus packages are passed.
Gregoire met Monday at the University of Washington with some of the state's key business and education leaders for a round-table discussion.
The governor will unveil her proposed budget for the next two years next week.
Deep cuts are expected across the board in Gregoire's budget.
The governor and state lawmakers are staring at a projected budget deficit nearing $6 billion.
Gregoire says that federal and state stimulus packages that will get people working will help.
She says transportation and university construction projects could play a role in that stimulus package.
