Washington Set to Host Portland State
SEATTLE (AP) - The Washington men's basketball team will see
some familiar faces when it plays Portland State on Sunday night.
The Vikings' team contains three former Huskies.
Portland State coach Ken Bone was on the staff of Washington
coach Lorenzo Romar from 2002-2005, and Vikings assistant coach
Curtis Allen played for Washington from 2001-04.
One of the three players returning is Portland State starting
forward Phil Nelson. He was part of a decorated recruiting class
that Romar landed back in 2005, along with 7-footer Spencer Hawes,
guard Adrian Oliver and swingman Quincy Pondexter.
Nelson is averaging 11 points per game for the Vikings, who are
Romar hopes by the end of this week to make a decision on
whether freshman forward Tyreese Breshers will redshirt this
Breshers has been slowed after having offseason shin surgery and
has yet to participate in a full practice. With the Huskies
currently in a stretch of eight days between games, the amount of
practice time should give Romar a gauge of whether Breshers can
help this season.
Gonzaga at Arizona Sunday in Phoenix
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - The Gonzaga men's basketball team, ranked
fourth in the nation and still undefeated at 7-0, plays Sunday
against Arizona in Phoenix. The Bulldogs pulled ahead in the second
half on Wednesday to beat Washington State by 22 points.
WSU vs. Montana State
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - After losing to Gonzaga on Wednesday, the
Washington State men's basketball team heads to Seattle for a game
tomorrow against Montana State in KeyArena.
