Washington National Guard Celebrates 372nd Birthday
KENNEWICK, Wash -
The Washington National Guard is celebrating it's 372nd birthday today. .
The Kennewick location offered cake to anyone that stopped by. Some visitors left goodies for the guard members to honor their service and birthday.
The national guard is the oldest component of the U-S Armed Forces and traces back to militias of the first English colonies.
In spite of celebrating, it was business as usual at the Kenenwick office.
"No hootin' and hollerin' except with our other sister services, the Marines, the Navy, the Army and the Air force. We get to point out that they all sprang from us. The National Guard is the oldest branch of the service." says Sergeant Strong of the National Guard in Kennewick.
Other storefront locations around the state also offered cake today.
