KENNEWICK, Wash. - The National Weather Service says our state is going to get its first real taste of winter this weekend. Which means if you haven't already...you need to prepare your car to go through the mountains.
The state's emergency management division has created a complete guide to winter travel. They want everyone to review the guide and make sure they are prepared before making any long travels across the state. Some of the basic steps you can take include letting someone know your travel plans and always sticking to the main roads.
As a precaution...always fill up on gas and consider half a tank...as empty. They also want you to remember "ice and snow, take it slow" and that means slower speeds, acceleration, steering, and braking.
Now officials want you to put together a safety kit for your car when you travel. This kit should include items like a battery operated radio, a flashlight, ice scraper, jumper cables, map of the area, light sticks, and other items.
